Here's what you'll need:
- Glass sphere ornaments: Clear ones work best! You can find these at most craft stores. Make sure the ornament has a removeable top.
- Old book: Don't worry, we're not harming any first editions here! For best results, choose a book with well-worn pages. To keep with the spirit of Christmas, consider using a thrifted Bible.
- Ribbon: Pick a color and style that complements your book's pages.
- Scissors
- Pencil or pen
Instructions:
- Using the ruler and pencil, draw lines above and below several lines of text. You can make strips varying widths.
- Cut along lines into strips.
- Roll each strip around the pencil so it tightly bends into a spiral shape.
- Open the ornament and start placing the spirals inside. Fill ornament with as many spirals as you'd like.
- Close the ornament.
- Thread the ribbon through the hole at the top of the ornament and make a loop the size of your desired length for the ornament to hang. Cut and double-knot the loop to close it. Trim the ends, then move the knot to the backside of the hole at the top of the ornament to disguise it.
- Cut another ribbon, at least 6 inches in length. Tie a bow around the loop, near the top of the ornament. Adjust the bow to your desired size, then trim the ends to your desired length.
- Hang on your tree and enjoy a bookish Christmas!
Tips and Tricks:
- Embrace variety: Use different fonts, text sizes, and illustrations to create visually dynamic ornaments.
- Add some sparkle: Incorporate glitter glue or metallic paper for an extra touch of holiday magic.
- Personalize your ornaments: Write a heartfelt message or the year on a small piece of paper and include it inside the ornament.
These bookish ornaments are more than just decorations; they're a celebration of stories and a testament to the enduring magic of books. So gather your materials, put on some holiday tunes, and let your creativity soar.
